Our History

timeline

The business was founded by bespoke tailor Lajb Ryz. Since the beginning, our goal has always been to create men’s clothing that looks sophisticated, fits perfectly, is made from the world’s best fabric mills resulting in an exceptional and unique product.

Siegbert Ryz, referred to by clients and family as “Ziggy”, joined his father in the business. Ziggy was an accountant by profession and learned the skills of bespoke tailoring from his father. He also attended a city and guilds diploma course covering technical drawing and bespoke tailoring with famous tailors such as Robert Gieves of Gieves and Hawkes.

The business increased its profile further when Ziggy’s son Jonathan joined the business in 1994. Jonathan worked for Simpsons of Piccadilly, a speciality menswear and department store, holding three royal warrants, famous in its day for personal service and a vast selection of high quality clothing. He also gained further experience working for many premium Italian fashion boutiques situated on London’s Bond Street and Sloane Street.

Demain est.1953 is somewhat of a rare commodity in today’s era. Being one of the last independent menswear shops left in Berkshire, we continue to provide a personal service built on the principles of classic tailoring from Italy. All aspects of the business are overseen by the owner resulting in a one on one customer relationship unique to our business.

Jonathan, the store owner and assistant was an impeccable help today helping my fiance choose a new suit for a wedding we were going to attend. He came in with a specific style, the same style that he had been wearing for numerous years and Jonathan helped him explore a different line of tailoring with a vast variety of options, with Jonathan’s insight and knowledge he brought one that looked as if it was specifically made for him . Jonathan’s knowledge of suits, and tailoring is second to none. Jonathan has been in Gentlemen’s fashion for decades and it shows.

Just purchased two great quality suits from Demain. Jonathan knows his vast stock incredibly well and was able to find the perfect thing in minutes. Trousers were altered and everything ready in under a week. If you could do without the slog around every store in town only to settle on something that isn’t right try Demain instead.

As a new customer I was extremely impressed with the service I received at this men’s clothes shop – far superior to anything else in Reading. A good selection at very reasonable prices for the quality, which is hard to find at the everyday ‘chain’ stores. Can highly recommend !!

I have been going to Jonathan for the last few years, and he has never let me down. When I first went to him, I was buying ‘off the peg’ suits from the rather cheap and cheerful suit retailers of Reading, who normally didn’t give two hoots as to how well the the suit fitted! However, with Jonathan, he has extensive knowledge of the industry, gives great customer care and is a nice chap too! He is always prepared to go the extra mile and give the best price possible. I would highly recommend him!
